We are honoured to have Riel Karmy-Jones KC of Red Lion Chambers as our Guest Speaker for our Annual Dinner Debate on Thursday 8 October 2026.
Riel Karmy-Jones KC has had a prominent career in criminal law, both for prosecution and defence, spanning over 30 years and is a leading silk in the field. She was awarded silk in 2015. Her high-profile practice includes cases relating to murder and manslaughter, serious organised crime, sexual offences and modern slavery/human trafficking particularly those involving vulnerable witnesses and defendants. Riel Karmy-Jones KC has also been instructed in numerous cases that have attracted widespread media attention including acting as Senior Counsel to the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse leading the investigation into the Roman Catholic Church and the English Benedictine Congregation and its schools between 2017 and 2019. Between 2025 and 2026 she was the Chair of the Criminal Bar Association and represented the Criminal Bar of England and Wales in talks with the Ministry of Justice and gave evidence before the Justice Select Committee and a Parliamentary Cross-Bench committee on the proposed reforms to jury trials. She has been a contributing editor to many legal texts including Archbold Criminal Pleading and Human Rights in Criminal Law.

The Annual Dinner Debate will take place in the Library at the Travellers Club, 106 Pall Mall, London SW1Y 5EP on Thursday 8 October 2026 at 7.00 pm for 7.30 pm dinner (Dress Code: Jacket and tie and equivalent for ladies). The debate will be preceded by a reception and dinner, following which the debate will be open to all. The price for this event Is £85 per person for BILA members and £95 per person for non-BILA members. There are a limited number of places for this event and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis of those who have paid for their place.
