We are pleased to announce that BILA will host the following virtual events:

A virtual Dinner Debate with Nazir Afzal OBE (Thursday 15 October 2020 at 6.30pm).

A webinar on crypto currencies with Christopher Lundie, Julia Schtulman and Lauren Rapeport (Tuesday 10 November 2020 at 6.00pm).

A webinar on the changes in insolvency law across Italy and the UK, with Lino di Lorenzo and Judge Giacomo Lucente (Wednesday 2 December 2020 at 6.30pm).

Webinar: Force Majeure in relation to contracts

You are invited to join a webinar on the subject of “Force Majeure in relation to contacts” by Ben Zelenka Martin, barrister at One Essex Court.

When: at 1.00 pm on Friday 17 July 2020 (UK time)

Ben Zelenka Martin practices in both contentious and non-contentious matters. His contentious experience is in complex commercial litigation, particularly shareholder disputes and civil fraud claims. He works as part of counsel teams of various sizes, and has appeared as sole counsel in the High Court and various County Courts.

Equal Pay Act 50 years on: a debate on what has been achieved and what lies ahead

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Equal Pay Act. BILA will celebrate this milestone by organising a virtual debate on Monday 29th June at 6.00pm (BST).

The format will be that of a friendly conversation of 30-40 minutes, followed by Q&A and debate with the audience. Interventions and question from the virtual floor are welcome and encouraged.

BILA Award 2020

The British Italian Law Association is pleased to launch the BILA Award for Italian law students. The aim of the prize is to encourage students of Italian Universities with interests in the British legal system to explore relevant themes and topics by researching, considering and developing an argument in a short essay written in English about any matter of law in particular with regard to cross-border legal practice issues This year students are asked to write an essay on the following topic:

“A comparison of the concepts of domicile and residence in the UK and Italian systems”.

Applications for the prize will be accepted until 15 October 2020. Please visit the BILA Award web page for further information.

Riconoscimento delle qualifiche professionali degli avvocati nel Regno Unito alla luce della Brexit

The event takes place on Friday 29 May 2020 at 2-2.30pm (Italian time)

The event, organised by COMITES, will take place at the Italian Parliament and will be broadcast live on webtv.camera.it

London Legal Walk 2020 & 10,000 Steps for Justice

The London Legal Support Trust invited BILA members to sign up as a team (even of one) to the London Legal Walk 2020.

You will be automatically enrolled to take part in ‘10,000 Steps for Justice’, a virtual event on the 8th June to coincide with the main Walk on the 5th October.
